What is Microcement?

How to Apply Microcement: Step-by-Step

1. Clean the Surface: Ensure the floor to be covered with microcement is in perfect condition. Clean it of dust, stains, grease, or any other particles, and check the base for moisture. If needed, apply a moisture-blocking primer.
2. Primer Application: Once the surface is clean, apply a primer to enhance adhesion between the existing support and the new microcement floor. Use a primer suitable for the surface’s absorbency.
3. First Base Layer: Apply the first non-pigmented base layer of microcement. Use fiberglass mesh to help minimize cracks over time. After application, sand the surface.
4. Second Base Layer: Once the surface is completely dry, apply a pigmented base layer. Choose the desired color for the continuous floor, and once covered, sand the microcement floor.
5. Two Finishing Layers: Apply two finishing layers of pigmented microcement. Depending on the finish and slip resistance desired, use medium or coarse microcement. We recommend two coats of Satine’s microcement for optimal results.
6. Surface Protection: Finally, protect the microcement floor by applying two coats of a pre-sealer followed by two coats of a top sealer. This protects, waterproofs, and can provide an anti-slip finish.
