CD Burriana has had a brilliant season and came close to advancing to the third division. This great effort was recognized on Friday in a dual event of reception and celebration, albeit with a limited invitation due to health circumstances.
Fears of a large crowd gathering at the Town Hall to greet the CD Burriana team led to a decision not to widely publicize the invitation.
Despite this, Satine organized a celebration in their building at Plaza Mayor on Friday afternoon. The Town Hall held a reception led by the Mayor of Burriana, Mª Josep Safont, with the attendance of the Sports Councilor, Vicent Aparisi, and several members of the municipal corporation.
The first team of CD Burriana, competing in the regional preference division, played their last promotion match for the third division on Wednesday at the Municipal Stadium of Alberic against CD Benicarló. After a long and controversial game, the Burriana team reached the penalty shootout, which resulted in a victory for the opposing team.
Maria Josep Safont, on behalf of the entire municipal corporation, paid tribute to and congratulated the club for “the brilliant season they have had” and expressed municipal institutional support for the club and its ongoing project.
She also wanted to highlight and acknowledge “the effort and work carried out by all the club’s members,” particularly noting “the dedication of the players, who, despite all the circumstances due to the COVID-19 health crisis, have shown unmatched professionalism until the final minute played, in support of our city’s team.”
Finally, the mayor expressed her gratitude to the players for “the great sports moments that have thrilled the people of Burriana,” wished them “a well-deserved rest,” and encouraged them to maintain this level of achievement for the future, stating, “You are the best and you will succeed, we are confident,” she concluded.
