Farewell to Postin, the Great Captain of C.D. Burriana
A serious injury has expedited the retirement of one of the great captains of provincial football in Castellón over the last decade: the Burrianense Agustín Barrachina, known as Postin. The 37-year-old central defender had planned to hang up his boots at the end of this season, but a severe knee injury has hastened his departure from football, a sport that has given him so much and to which he has given so much in return.
Talking about Postin is to mention one of the most significant names in Burriana’s recent football history and, by extension, in the football of the province of Castellón. Following in the footsteps of his brother Raúl Barrachina, he began playing at Puerto de Burriana over three decades ago before moving to CD Burriana (with a couple of brief stints at Consbur and Alcalà). After this brief detour, he secured a place in the first team of the Celeste club, coming close to promotion to Tercera División in 2011. A last-minute goal in Requena denied him success, but he redeemed himself a year later at El Collao against Alcoyano B, becoming a key player in the team’s return to national competition six years later.
2 Years in Third Division Football
After his time at Estadio Castalia, the defender returned to San Fernando to solidify his legacy with the Blue jersey, which he wore proudly from his early days as a youth player to the later seasons with the authority of a captain and the respect of the football community. A total of 15 seasons defending the Burriana colors in over 500 matches speaks volumes, including participating in up to four promotion playoffs.
Emotional Farewell
For the captain of Burriana Football Club, this is not an easy moment. “All farewells always come with a deep sadness. And this one will be no different; this one is perhaps a bit unjust because of how it has come about.” He continues, “I was clear that this was going to be my last year; I decided that and, true to my principles, it was going to be that way.” “The feeling I’ve had every time I’ve stepped onto the pitch with the number 4 on my back and that crest tattooed on my heart. Many matches and kilometers covered just to perform at my best; for my club, my teammates, and for those tireless fans who have always been there,” Postin concludes.
